Cohoes Mayor John McDonald Endorses Tracey Brooks for Congress

Calls Brooks a Friend of Our Community and Partner of Local Governments

Tracey Brooks today announced the second Albany County mayor to endorse her candidacy for the 21st Congressional District. Cohoes Mayor John McDonald endorsed Brooks calling her a friend of our community and the candidate who best understands the needs of local government.

“I’m supporting Tracey Brooks for Congress because she has the best combination of State and Federal government experience and also knows the right way to approach the many issues facing our local communities,” said McDonald.  “Tracey Brooks has a real understanding of how local government works, what local government needs and how to respond to those needs.”

Last week, Brooks received the endorsement of another popular local mayor, Green Island Mayor Ellen McNulty Ryan. Brooks is running for the Congressional seat currently held by Mayor McNulty Ryan’s brother, Democratic Congressman Michael McNulty, who last year announced his intention to retire from Congress.

“Tracey Brooks is exactly the right type of person we need to send to Washington,” said Mayor McDonald. “She’s smart, passionate, dedicated and really does have the best grasp of the full-time commitment involved with this office. We all know of Congressman McNulty’s dedication to the job and to his community and I believe Tracey Brooks shares those same qualities.”

“I’m honored to have Mayor McDonald’s endorsement, along with Mayor McNulty Ryan’s,” said Brooks. “I admire their community leadership and respect their commitment to public service. I’m thrilled to have their support and look forward to continue working closely with them and all our local community leaders.”

As a lifelong resident of the Albany area and the Capital Region Director for Senator Hillary Clinton for the last three years, Brooks enters the race with working knowledge of the problems facing the region and experience in finding solutions to them.

“Continuing to spend billions of dollars in Iraq is the wrong priority for our country, while the right priority is to invest that money in solving our problems right here at home,” said Brooks. “I will work hard to bring our troops home safely, jumpstart our national and local economy, provide comprehensive health care for our families, support our local farmers and small businesses, address our growing housing issues and bring more clean renewable energy to the Capital Region.”
