Mayor Ellen McNulty Ryan Endorses Tracey Brooks for CongressBrooks Announces Mayor McNulty Ryan Will Chair Her Campaign Committee

Tracey Brooks today announced her first major endorsement in the campaign for the 21st Congressional District – Green Island Mayor Ellen McNulty Ryan -- who will also serve as the chairwoman of her campaign committee.

Brooks is seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat currently held by Mayor McNulty Ryan’s brother, Democratic Congressman Michael McNulty, who last year announced his intention to retire from Congress.

“Tracey is intelligent, energetic, and has the necessary experience to serve the people of the 21st Congressional District,” said Mayor McNulty Ryan. “I believe that Tracey Brooks is the candidate that has the best grasp of the commitment, duties and obligations involved with this office, and I intend to work hard for her.”

“I am so honored to have the endorsement and support of Mayor Ellen McNulty Ryan, a local leader who comes from a family of great public servants and someone whom I greatly admire,” said Brooks. “And I’m thrilled that Mayor McNulty Ryan has also agreed to chair my campaign committee.”

As a lifelong resident of the Albany area and the Capitol Regional Director for Senator Hillary Clinton for the last three years, Brooks enters the race with working knowledge of the problems facing the region and experience in finding solutions to them.

“Congressman McNulty has said that continuing to spend billions of dollars in Iraq is the wrong priority for our country, while the right priority is to invest that money in solving our problems right here at home,” said Brooks. “I agree with Congressman McNulty and will work hard to bring our troops home, jumpstart the economy, provide comprehensive health care reform, support our local farmers and small businesses, address the growing housing issues and push for more clean renewable energy.”

“I have a responsibility, as Mayor of Green Island, to work to make sure that Mike’s successor will have the same availability, character and ability that he possesses,” concluded McNulty Ryan. “I believe Tracey Brooks is that person.”
