EMILY’s List
Announces Endorsement of Tracey Brooks
For New York’s 21st
Congressional District
Washington, D.C. -- EMILY’s List, the nation’s
largest political action committee and financial resource for women running for
elective office, today announced its endorsement of Tracey Brooks for New York’s 21st
congressional district.
“Tracey
Brooks is a bright, honest, and articulate leader who has been actively working
with New York
communities for more than fifteen years,” said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of
EMILY’s List. “A fresh voice with innovative ideas, Tracey is a rising star in
the political world. She has dedicated her life to advocating for those in
need, from her work to increase access to education to her successful fight to
protect families’ homes. EMILY’s List and its members are proud to support
Tracey Brooks in her campaign to represent New York’s 21st district.”
Born
in Albany and raised in Clifton Park,
Tracey Brooks has dedicated her life to public service throughout her political,
legal, and community work. As the regional director for Senator Hillary
Clinton, Brooks used her intimate knowledge of the 21st district to
fight to improve economic development, health care, education and the neglected
infrastructure by securing federal resources for local communities.
Earlier
in her career, as counsel to the New York Assembly Judiciary and Codes
Committee, she effectively negotiated to provide education for student
achievers and to require licenses for New York State
home inspectors. In this congressional race, Brooks faces a crowded primary
field and a politically-connected, Republican opponent who owns a local energy
company. However, Brooks is a proven vote-getter who has earned numerous
critical local endorsements and is considered the front runner with her
well-organized, well-funded campaign.
“I
am thankful to have the support of thousands of EMILY's List members, many of
whom live right here in New York,”
said Brooks. “With a crumbling economy, our troops still in Iraq, and health care costs going
through the roof, we need to readjust our priorities for our district and for
the nation. I am determined to be that voice and to continue Rep. McNulty’s
good work for families and communities in New York’s 21st district.”
With
more than 100,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is the largest
political action committee in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's
List has raised over $240 million to elect 69 pro-choice Democratic women to
the U.S. House, 13 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. Over the course of 23
years, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to
federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key
local offices.
