March Madness on the Campaign Trail Rocco DeFazio
Hosts Tracey Brooks Event in Troy
Troy entrepreneur and community leader Rocco DeFazio today
announced that he will host a “March Madness Goes to Washington” fundraiser and
candidate meet-n-greet with Congressional candidate and former basketball state
champion Tracey Brooks on Sunday, March 30th, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, at Ryan’s
Wake in Troy.
“We’re planning a fun afternoon of basketball, politics and
food with my friend Tracey Brooks,” said DeFazio, a big fan and local supporter
of sports and politics. “I’m supporting Tracey Brooks for Congress because she
has the right experience and right priorities for the job but also because
she’s grown up in the community, played sports here, has given back to our
neighborhoods and community organizations.”
DeFazio noted that Tracey Brooks was a member of the
Shenendehowa girl’s varsity basketball team which won the New York State
championship in 1988. “Tracey is a real team
player and has that competitive edge from playing sports. I know Tracey will go to Washington and be a gritty playmaker for the
entire Capital Region.”
Tracey Brooks is seeking the Democratic nomination for the
21st Congressional District, a seat currently held by Democratic Congressman
Mike McNulty who last year announced his intention to retire from Congress.
Brooks has received several major local endorsements including Congressman
McNulty’s father Jack McNulty, his sister Green Island Mayor Ellen McNulty
Ryan, Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings and Cohoes Mayor John McDonald.
Just this week, Brooks received the full endorsement of
EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest political action committee and financial
resource for women running for elective office. Brooks also recently received
the backing of several labor unions including the Bricklayers & Allied
Craftworkers (BAC) Union Local #2 NYS and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local
1321.
As a lifelong resident of the Albany area and the Capital Region Director
for Senator Hillary Clinton for the last three
years, Brooks enters the race with working knowledge of the problems facing the
region and experience in finding solutions to them.
